Hey everyone!

It's been quite a while since y'all have heard from us but we are back on the blogging bandwagon! We have been pretty busy this summer with Chefs in the Fast Lane and our brand new Big Hoss TV Summer Movie Series. Don't worry though... we aren't simply limiting all of the fun to summer time. Here are some exciting events we have coming up this fall that you CANNOT miss out on!

Laps for Charity

You're the driver when Texas Motor Speedway opens up the track to the public! That's right... experience the thrill of driving your personal vehicle around the 1.5-mile speedway, all to benefit SCC Texas! After your laps, you can celebrate with a photo in Texas Motor Speedway's victory lane... but even that doesn't end the fun. This year, we will be having a drive-in movie immediately following the conclusion of the event. Again, this is open to the public and we would LOVE to see you out here!

- When? Saturday, September 27, 2014 (Time TBD)

- Where? Texas Motor Speedway

- Bring? Yourself, your vehicle, your cooler, and some friends

*More detailed information to come, keep checking the Events tab on our website for updates*

Tony Stewart Smoke Show

Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart is BACK, y'all!

The sixth edition of the Tony Stewart Smoke Show is set for Tuesday, Sept. 23, and it will have a new look as participants will run under the lights of Texas Motor Speedway's high-banked, 1.5-mile oval for the first time.

The Smoke Show has raised more than $1 million in just its five years of existence and the funds have been used to help children throughout North Texas.

The itinerary this year will be slightly different from years passed. The participants will arrive at 2:30 p.m. CT and spend the next nine hours getting the opportunity to experience a day-in-the-life of a NASCAR driver during a typical race day, drive competitive laps in a stock car on Texas Motor Speedway and hang out with Smoke himself throughout the event.

The Smoke Show features:

- Personalized lockers and a personalized "Smoke Show" driver's suit

- Drivers' meeting & Q&A with Stewart

- Pre-race driver introductions on stage

- Two 10-lap competitive lap sessions in a Team Texas stock car with personalized instruction from Stewart and a video keepsake of your drive

- A Victory Lane celebration where you join Stewart to celebrate with the AAA Texas 500 trophy while wearing a winner's felt cowboy hat and firing off the pistols just like the NASCAR Sprint Cup winners do at Texas Motor Speedway

- Riding shotgun as Stewart gives you a stimulating, three-lap run around Texas Motor Speedway in a Team Texas two-seater stock car

- Add ons available: bring a guest $1,000, custom Smoke Show helmet $1,000, racing shoes $250

All participants also will be provided lunch and dinner along with a Q&A and autograph session with Tony as well as a live auction of several authentic Tony Stewart items. We offer multiple pricing packages to participate in the event, beginning at $6,000. The event is limited to 30 participants with only 5 spots left!

To purchase a spot for the "Smoke Show" or for additional information, please call the Speedway Children's Charities-Texas office at (817) 215-8421.

Racing to Race Week

Monday, March 18, 2013

Hey friends!

I can't believe it’s already the middle of March. The official countdown to race weekend is 25 days… hope everyone is getting pumped!

Here in the office we are in full preparation mode for our upcoming events. April 11th is the big day with the kick start of race weekend and two SCC events in one day! In the morning we have the Gears & Greens Golf Tournament, and later that evening we have the Hall of Fame. Both events promise to be a great time!

For the Gears & Greens Golf Tournament, the "Swag Suite" will be returning. We’ll have popcorn from the Poppin’ Shop, potato sticks, Calloway gifts, and much more. On the course we will be having a backwards raffle as well as the fan favorite NASCAR hole. For the backwards raffle, the prize will be 2 “Hot Garage Passes” and for the NASCAR hole the fastest to the hole in the fewest strokes will each win a Calloway hybrid driver.

Also, we have some exciting news for all of you local foodies out there. We will have a few food trucks stationed at the Gears & Greens Golf Tournament to serve some yummy cuisine to all of our players and volunteers. The food truck participants include Bombay Chopstix, Hook & Ladder Draught House and Pizza Co. , and Cajun Tailgators. We’re mixing it up a bit this year, and hope this adds a little fun to the whole experience!

If y’all have any questions about the golf tournament or any upcoming events, give us a shout at

Jennifer Ilgen

Monday, January 28, 2013

Hi there! My name is Jennifer Ilgen and I am one of the new interns here at Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway. I’m currently a junior at The University of North Texas studying Marketing, and am also a proud member of the LugNutz crew at TMS.

I am so fortunate to work with SCC this semester and can’t wait to learn the ins-and-outs of working for a non-profit organization!

We have so many exciting events coming up, and I’m really looking forward to the Live Auction. I’ve never been to an auction before, but I imagine the energy surrounding the bidding and prizes is quite fun! On a side note, one of my classmates in my public speaking course told me I should look into being an auctioneer considering the speed at which I talk.

Who knows, maybe I’ll give it a shot at the auction! Only kidding…but the auction promises to be a great event benefiting SCC with not only great prizes being raffled, but also once in a lifetime race experiences. Mark your calendars for April 12th...see you there!

No Limits to Volunteering

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Hi y’all! Race weekend is quickly approaching and the count down to the No Limits Run is on! As everything is coming near, we are finalizing lots of details for the different events.

There’s a lot going on, as I’m sure you can imagine. A few of the big tasks at hand currently are finding volunteers all of the events, entertainers for the run and sponsors.

If you or anyone else that you know would be interested in a great volunteering experience, let us know! It’s a wonderful way to build your resume and gain some event experience. Also, a wonderful way to give back to your community in a fun environment. (Volunteering is one of my favorite ways to give back! I love the interaction with all of the patrons.) Also, if you know of anyone who would be a great sponsor for the run, or any of the events let us know! Or if you know of someone who would be interested in being an entertainer during the run, let us know as well! We would love to be in contact with them.

It’s all quickly approaching! I hope you’re half as excited as I am. Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve actually never seen a race… so I’m rather excited for the weekend to be here! J

Have a terrific Tuesday, y’all!

GroupOn Deal!

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

Hi everyone! So I came into the office this morning and found out about a really cool deal that I think y’all will think is awesome, too. It’s a GroupOn deal that allows you to donate $10 to help fill libraries with books.

If 50 people donate, then SCC will be able to supply a school with 100 books. How great is that? It’s all part of the Speeding to Read program that helps to encourage students to start reading by supplying their school libraries with books.

Simply click this link here: and make your donation today! So far 35 people have donated. The deal only lasts for 5 days longer.. . so don’t waste any more time reading this post… click the link! J

Happy Tuesday, y’all!

Racing through 2012!

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Hi y’all! My name is Casey Walker and I’m so excited to be the new intern here at Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for the charity and the track! I have a feeling it will be a wonderful ride for all of us.

The “No Limits” Run, a brand new event surrounding race weekend, is a great chance for y’all to come out and enjoy a nice 5K or a half marathon with friends, family and fellow runners! Not to mention it’s for a great cause. The race is set for October 27th and registration is currently open. Registration is $95 through September 30th, $100 through October 25th and $125 on race day.

It wouldn’t be a race at Texas Motor Speedway without some exciting prizes. The major category winners will be treated to the same post-race celebration in Victory Lane as the race winners in NASCAR and INDYCAR. In, each winner will receive a cowboy hat and fire a pair of Turnbull 45 Colt-style, single-action revolvers in celebration just like the NASCAR and INDYCAR race winners.

To register, or for more information on the “No Limits” Half Marathon and 5K, please visit

If you have any questions regarding the run please don’t hesitate to email us or call us at (817) 215-8421. We look forward to hearing from you!

Exciting Year Ahead

Thursday, February 2, 2012

My name is Candice Lindsey and I am one of the two new interns at Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway. The Texas Chapter of SCC has some exciting events coming up, and I am looking forward to being a part of all of them! Our grant workshop, which was held on January 24th, was quite a success.

Over 400 people from 325 organizations attended. With numbers like that, we are enthusiastic to see what this year has in store for us. What an exciting time to be a part of SCC!

As we get closer and closer to our big events in April, we’re always looking for volunteers to help us out. April 11th kicks off SCC’s first event of the year, Gears and Greens. It’s been called the best golf event in all of motorsports, and we want you to come and be apart!

For volunteer information, email us at Whether it’s just you, or you and your organization, we welcome all volunteers. SCC looks forward to hearing from you!

Happy New Year!

Thursday, January 19, 2012

My name is Grace Weil and I am the new intern here at Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway. I am incredibly excited to begin 2012 with SCC, and am looking forward to helping out throughout the next couple months.

One of the first events I get to experience is our grant workshop for those organizations interested in applying for our chapter’s Partner and Founders grants. This event will be held on Tuesday, January 24th from 9-11am. At this workshop we will be explaining our grant application process to the attendees in order to improve their application process. I am eager to become familiar with the local organizations in Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties as they apply for grants. We’re excited to see all that we can do to help throughout the community!

If you have any questions about our grants please email us at . We look forward to hearing from you!

Tuesday November 29th, was an unforgettable evening for 23 non-profit organizations in North Texas. We held our annual tree lighting and grant ceremony at Texas Motor Speedway and had an incredible turnout! We are proud to announce that this year we topped over $8 million in giving to the North Texas community since 1997.

We could fill the grandstands of Texas Motor Speedway FOURTEEN TIMES with the number of children we have been able to positively impact in our 15 years of service to the North Texas community.

Of the $500,000 distributed at the grant ceremony, $300,000 was awarded through our Partner grants to 22 very deserving organizations. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth received the Betty Rutherford Founders grant in the amount of $125,000 to help build a playground at the Butler Branch. The playground will provide a safe place for the children at Butler Branch to play and learn. We are thrilled to announce the Speeding to Help Program at Texas Motor Speedway has agreed to partner with Speedway Children's Charities in August of 2012 to help the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth put the finishing touches on their playground.

Santa arrived from the North Pole a little early this year to deliver 109 bikes and helmets to children who attended our tree lighting ceremony with some of our partner organizations. Once the kiddos made it through the bike corral and were fitted for the right helmet, they made their way up to the concourse where they joined Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Santa himself for a ride through the Gift of Lights. The Gift of Lights is a 1.7 mile light display on the Texas Motor Speedway concourse. The folks at Gift of Lights VERY generously donated a tour through the concourse to every participant and guest at the annual tree lighting ceremony.

We are so proud of the work we have been able to do for so many organizations serving children in need in North Texas and look forward to another record breaking year in 2012.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your friends at Speedway Children's Charities at Texas Motor Speedway!
