More than 300 people enjoyed the sparkle of the Fort Worth Holiday Tree donated by Texas Motor Speedway and Speedway Children's Charities on Friday, November 25th. A record $486,000 was distributed to more than 100 local non-profits, making the 9th Annual Grant Ceremony and Tree Lighting the biggest in the history of the chapter. The tree will be set in Sundance Square throughout the holiday season. Organizations from Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties were represented as recipients of the 2005 grants. Speedway Children's Charities also received The Director's Honorable Mention Award (tying with the Fort Worth Zoo) for their float entry in the Sundance Square Parade of Lights. The float- themed "Santa, Start Your Engines" was constructed by the Texas Motor Speedway Operations Department, who also have worked tireless to make the 66 foot Douglas fir tree in Sundance Square a beautiful spot to celebrate the holidays. Volunteers of the Year for Speedway Children's Charities were named and included: Jim Busbee, Pamela Bailey, Kenton Nelson, and The Wolter Family. Corporate Sponsors of the Year included: Beretta USA, The Star-Telegram, Texas Motor Speedway, and Pressman Printing. Club of the Year Award was presented to The Corvette Club of Texas. Mr. L.O. “Buzz” Brightbill was presented with The President's Award, recognizing the outstanding board trustee of the year for Speedway Children's Charities.
