Inaugural FanFest! Delivers
Thursday, September 6, 2007
The first annual FanFest! hosted by Texas Motor Speedway and the six CBS radio affiliates in Dallas/Fort Worth delivered on its promise of providing area race fans with a free night of entertainment. Featuring a fan forum and autograph session with NASCAR NEXTEL Cup stars Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer, the estimated 3,000 FanFest! attendees were also treated to free rides around "The Great American Speedway!" in Team Texas stock cars, Texas Driving Experience Corvettes and TMS pace cars. Live interactive exhibits were also present and the night featured a Pit Stop Challenge competition.
"I think there is a lot of potential to grow FanFest! into an annual large event for area race fans," Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. "We wanted to provide a few hours of free entertainment for race fans that have supported us throughout the years and judging by the turnout and reactions to FanFest! I would say we have laid a solid foundation for making the event even bigger in 2008."
Sandra Smilski, of North Richland Hills, received an experience of a lifetime as she was the grand prize winner and received a lap around Texas Motor Speedway from Truex Jr. as part of the "Lil' Bears for Lil' Kids" charity initiative between the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation and Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter. Over 100 fans made a $10 donation to the campaign and over 60 stuffed animals were collected for the "Lil' Bears for Lil' Kids" campaign.
