Since 2000, Speedway Children's Charities has donated more than $48,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth, with a majority of those funds applied towards the agency's "Meals of the Heart" program.

Companies, local restaurants, civic organizations, schools, churches and other volunteer groups provide dinner for houseguests. Most of the overnight guests at the Ronald McDonald House spend many long hours at Cook Children's, and are often comforted upon their return by a hot, nutritious meal served with a smile.

Throughout the past 11 years, "Meals of the Heart" has grown to have meals provided an average of 25 nights per month, with the ultimate goal to serve dinner 100% of the month. The cost to serve 125 people one hot meal is approximately $416.50, while a special holiday meal costs $600.00. Last year, 81 volunteer groups contributed 2,792 hours of their personal time to prepare 337 meals for 765 families at the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth.

"Meals of the Heart" also provides light refreshments to the families congregating in the Ronald McDonald House Family Room - a special waiting area inside Cook Children's Medical Center for families of children who are being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Located across the street from Cook Children's Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth provides help, hope and a home-away-from home for the families of critically ill children who travel to the area for medical treatment. The House provides safe, comfortable accommodations, meals, private bathrooms, laundry facilities and other personal amenities. Most importantly, the Ronald McDonald House allows families to stay together and build friendships with other families while they are dealing with difficult circumstances.
