Fans Get Chance to Vote on Secret Ingredient for Asphalt Chef Grilling Competition
- Two-Week Voting Period Begins Today On Texas Motor Speedway’s Facebook Page
- Fans To Choose Between Pork, Gulf Shrimp And New York Cheddar
Fans will have the opportunity to determine the secret ingredient for the Asphalt Chef charity grilling competition featuring celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Guy Fieri and Tim Love scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at Texas Motor Speedway.
Fans will choose from a pre-determined ingredient from the major food groups of meat, fish and dairy with the three being Gulf shrimp, New York cheddar cheese and pork.
“The three potential secret ingredients are based on a local or personal favorite of the three chefs,” Batali said. “The idea that the fans can help choose the ingredient makes this event even more fun.”
Voting will begin today and the Asphalt Chef secret ingredient poll will be on Texas Motor Speedway’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/texasmotorspeedway). Fans will receive one complimentary vote, but have the opportunity to purchase additional votes by making a donation benefitting Speedway Children’s Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation via Chip-In. Donation denominations start as low as $1 and can be made easily and securely online with Chip-In, a PayPal-supported application.
Voting will conclude Monday, Nov. 1, and the secret ingredient will be unveiled just prior to the start of the Asphalt Chef competition. Asphalt Chef pairs celebrity chefs – Batali, Fieri and Love – with celebrity sous chefs in a head-to-head cooking competition on outdoor grills poolside at Texas Motor Speedway’s Lone Star Tower condominiums. Serving as sous chefs will be four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson alongside Batali, 2004 Sprint Cup champ Kurt Busch with Fieri and Foreigner lead singer Kelly Hansen paired with Love.
Once the secret ingredient is unveiled, the teams will have five minutes to concoct a recipe that includes that ingredient and then will have 15 minutes to prepare the dish for a special judging panel to vote on. The winning team will earn $5,000 toward their favorite charity as well as an oversized orange Mario Batali peppermill trophy.
The competition is the centerpiece of the charity event that benefits the Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter and the Mario Batali Foundation. Asphalt Chef, which will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. CT, will feature complimentary spirits and food, including a special dish from each of the celebrity chefs, for the party goers. There also will be live and silent auctions with unique items from each of the Asphalt Chef competitors as well as Hansen performing acoustic versions of a few of Foreigner’s biggest hits with bassist Jeff Pilson.
Tickets for the event at $250 and tax deductible. For tickets or additional information, please contact Speedway Children’s Charities at (817) 215-8421 or visit www.scctexas.org.
