Alliance for Children
Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway supports the healing counseling that sexually abused girls and boys ages five through sixteen receive at Alliance For Children. Through the sixteen week group counseling curriculum children learn that they are not alone, that other children have gone through similar experiences and that together with other children in the group they will heal. Led by licensed mental health professionals children learn to deal with core issues caused by their traumatic experiences. Alliance For Children has incorporated therapy dogs into the curriculum by developing stories about the dogs that deal with core issues of trust, anger, fear, post traumatic stress, and anxiety. The grant from Speedway Children’s Charities provides partial support for the counseling program and allows Alliance For Children to provide these vital services at no charge to the family of the child victim. In 2010 fiscal year, two hundred sixty children participated in Alliance For Children’s group counseling program.
The mission of Alliance For Children is to protect children of Tarrant County from child abuse through teamed investigations, healing services and community education. This mission is achieved through operating three child-friendly centers in Arlington, Fort Worth and Hurst and partnering with Child Protective Services, 14 local law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney’s Office and Cook Children’s Hospital. Alliance For Children has a staff of twenty-two that provides child forensic interviewing, case management, group counseling and community education about child abuse.
